Active Kids Are Healthy Kids!
Children are spending more and more time sitting still in front of screens. Many kids would rather play video games than go outside and play tag. I find it sad when I see a child seemingly glued to a screen. But what troubles me the most is that perhaps many parents don’t understand the consequences of their child’s lack of physical activity.
An active child is healthier in so many ways. Physical activity strengthens the heart and lungs and boosts the immune system. It keeps arteries and veins clear, controls weight, and strengthens bones. Physical activity also reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, and other chronic diseases. Exercise also benefits the mental health of children, by helping to manage depression and anxiety. It also improves thinking skills and concentration.
If you are a kid reading this, I urge you to stay active! There are so many good reasons. If you are a parent, please encourage your kid(s) to run, jump and play! It builds confidence and resilience too!
